The main house is oriented to take advantage of cross ventilation and parallels the bluffs offering dramatic views of the lake. Mackey Mitchell developed a master plan which called for a new pavilion for vehicles, and the renovation of two existing homes on the site. United by materials, details and roof pitches, the buildings all harmonize with the natural surroundings.
The smaller residence was the first project undertaken for testing ideas about building form, materials and colors. Anchored to granite buttresses which form a low granite wall, the auto pavilion's green cedar wood-shake roof, copper cupola, and heavy timbered frame are in keeping with the overll character of surrounding structures.
