Back in 2006, a principal from Mackey Mitchell was involved in a multi-phased initiative leading to the construction of a new state-of-the-art college residential facility. The project began in Chicago with a summit meeting of 100 college housing and student affairs professionals who met to envision the residence hall of the future. Sponsored by ACUHO-I, (Association for College and University Housing Officers International), two subsequent design competitions were held in 2007 and 2008 where MMA’s design garnered a “Compelling Community, ” award as well as the “People’s Choice Award” for two consecutive years.
Fast forward to 2011, where three campuses were named to implement concepts for the 21st Century project. One of those selected is Indiana University at Bloomington. According to Patrick H. Connor, executive director of the IUB Residential Programs and Services, “We are excited to have been selected as a host site for the Village phase and hope to deliver a residential facility that looks to the future, providing a vibrant community where campus life and learning intersect. “
