April 11 marked the dedication of the new Teen Library at the Samuel C. Sachs branch of the St. Louis County Library in Chesterfield, Missouri. The library invited Mackey Mitchell to come up with several design concepts for color, carpet, and graphics to update a former computer lab. After a group of teenagers selected their favorite ideas developed by architects Jim Konrad and Rachel Raterman, library staff worked with a select group of teens to implement the new design features. A favorite element is the circular TEEN CENTRAL “halo” signage that provides wayfinding and improves the room’s scale.
The Nancy Greenwood Teen Center serves teens in the Rockwood and Parkway School districts and was named after former Chesterfield Mayor Nancy Greenwood for her leadership in making the library improvements happen.
