Over the last six months we’ve featured four incredible people in videos who exemplify curiosity, innovation, drive, and discovery—the four core values that have shaped the last 50 years of our work.
We wanted to capture their unique struggles and triumphs, and spotlight how they’ve overcome obstacles to break through and thrive.
As we crafted each video we became more captivated by the human spirit, and were inspired to share our commitment to designing buildings that strengthen it.
Building up to our official anniversary, we created a special supercut video that featured highlights of each subject along with sentiments about Mackey Mitchell’s work from employees across the firm.

As a grand finale to our campaign celebration, we hosted an anniversary party and celebration of founder Gene Mackey’s legacy. The night brought past and present partners, clients, and friends together for cocktails and conversation. There was an incredible turnout, and we heard moving speeches from company President Steve Emer, long-time friend of MMA and EVP of Clayco, Rick Moeckel, special guest and video subject Julie Bourne of Maryland School for the Deaf, and Dan Mitchell, Principal Emeritus. It was a night of inspiration for everyone and a heartfelt tribute to Gene’s legacy.
Moving into the next 50 years of shaping the inspired, we look to Gene for words of wisdom.
“Architecture must be conceived as a whole idea, much like
a symphony. My company is really a stage on which people
can perform to their full potential.”
– Gene Mackey
With that timeless sentiment in mind, we look forward to continuing a tradition of thoughtful, human-centered design that empowers all people to thrive.
