The new 95,000-sf Nursing and Allied Health Facility at Baton Rouge Community College will provide state-of-the-art nursing instruction and clinical lab environments in order to increase the pool of trained nurses and health technicians in the State of Louisiana and Baton Rouge area. The new facility will bring together BRCC’s School of Nursing and Division of Allied Health under one roof, and will house the college’s current programs in Nursing, Sonography, Surgical Technician and Medical Assistant. Additionally, it will allow the College to add high-demand programs in Respiratory Care, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and Athletic Training.
Shape
Early design phases focused on detailed programming and interior design discussions with BRCC’s Administration, led by the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health and various program directors, to address the detailed space requirements and equipment needs for each of the college’s growing degree and certificate programs in Health Education. A significant emphasis and design attention is focused on flexibility, given the dynamic nature and accelerated rate of growth for existing and new programs on this campus.
Inspire
Based on the strength of our team’s design for the Ochsner Center for Nursing and Allied Health at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, Mackey Mitchell Architects—in a Joint Venture with CHASM and in association with Manning Architects—was selected to design the new Allied Health Facility. While the breadth of Mackey Mitchell’s health education experience is proving essential in helping anticipate and plan for the growth and diversification of BRCC’s academic programs to be housed in this new building, the depth of our experience is equally useful in providing specialized simulation and skills learning labs necessary for each discipline to meet accreditation requirements.
This investment will impact not only our students and Nursing and Allied Health programs, but it will also have a significant impact in our community as we are able to provide more high-demand training opportunities and equip and educate more healthcare professionals in this region.
