Home to 21 living/learning communities, the new apartment-style residence hall at the University of Northern Iowa was designed to encourage on-campus living. Panther Village includes 1-, 2-, and 4- person apartments for 246 students. In addition to fully-equipped kitchens, private bedrooms and furnished living rooms, the project includes a number of sustainability features, including a green roof.  According to Pat Beck, assistant director of residence marketing, “Panther Village is convenient, safe, comfortable, sustainable, and beautiful. Students who live on campus typically have a higher grade-point average, and develop a more positive experience with their on-campus community.”

UNI has developed award-winning programs for sustainability, student employment, residence education, commitment to diversity, and dining. The project was designed by Mackey Mitchell with Invision Architecture of Waterloo as the Architect-of-Record. Mackey Mitchell’s project team included Kyle Wagner, Sara Holt, Kevin Symons, and Merrilee Hertlein.
