Former SGA (Student Government Association)  president Ryan Schueler had a favorable response to the new student center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Schueler was one of the first people to promote the idea of creating a new center for the Huntsville campus and was “blown away” upon seeing it for the first time. Centrally located and now a prominent icon, the Charger Union is an integral part of an effort to transform the campus from a commuter school to a more traditional campus. According to Dean of Students Regina Hyatt, “The presence of this building will transform the student life experience for many generations of UAH students.”  Mackey Mitchell served as the lead design firm with Turner Batson Architects as the Architect of Record for this 97,000sf student center. MMA’s project team included lead project designer Gwynn Zivic, along with Jim Konrad, John Burse, Merrilee Hertlein, Clint Smith, and Stacey Wehe.
