According to Paul Abramson, an education analyst with New York-based Intelligence for Education, there’s an impressive number of campus housing projects completed in 2013 and 2014. Based on a group of college survey responses received by Abramson, he wrote “Demand, aging building spur campus housing boom.” In this article, he notes, “Fifty-two new residence halls in private and public schools to house 19,000 students opened last year or will open this year around the U.S., with a price tag of more than $2 billion.” As national experts in the design of higher education student housing projects, Mackey Mitchell Architects contributed significantly to this recent growth in campus residential facilities. In this same timeframe, we were involved in the design of approximately 1/3 of the total number of new beds (6,571 of Abramson’s 19,000 estimated total)!
