Since Eugene J. Mackey III, FAIA, LEED AP, founded Mackey Mitchell Architects at the age of 29, he recognized that it would take about 10 years to become an established firm. Over the last 40+ years the firm has made its mark on St. Louis and continues to expand its work portfolio well beyond the St. Louis region. The St. Louis Business Journal recently profiled Gene in the journal’s “Character” section where he talks about topics ranging from his early years in St. Louis, to his favorite projects, hobbies and what keeps him motivated every day. Gene’s been active in the community during his entire career as an architect, stating that those experiences have enriched him greatly.
Even though the firm continues to evolve and undergo transition, Mackey MItchell Architects continues to align itself from top to bottom behind the values learned from Gene Mackey (and his partner for many years – Dan Mitchell). There are no plans to move away from those values as the firm continues to explore new ways of growing, thinking and innovating.
