Beginning Friday, June 22nd, the Landmarks Association will feature an exhibition of watercolor paintings by architect Harry Richman. The exhibit will open with a reception and remarks from Mr. Richman and Gene Mackey. Why Gene Mackey? During a trip to the local drugstore Gene had a chance encounter with Harry who had been a principal with Gene’s father’s firm Murphy & Mackey. Since they hadn’t seen each other for many years, Harry invited Gene to pay him a visit. When Gene went to see him, he was overwhelmed by the strikingly beautiful watercolor images and landscapes displayed throughout his home. Gene called Michelle Swatek, AIA Executive Director and suggested organizing an exhibit at Landmarks.
After nearly 50 years in practice, Mr. Richman retired in 1995 and began painting. His talent combines an architect’s eye with a keen sense of light and color to create vibrant images of buildings and landscapes. The opening reception will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Landmarks Gallery, located at 911 Washington Avenue, St. Louis, MO.
