During a recent trip to Savannah to observe construction progress of a new 500-bed residence hall for the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Mackey Mitchell principal and architect Steve Emer was graciously invited (by Clayco) to attend a black-tie event for the 24th Annual SCAD Scholarship Fundraising Gala – a memorable affair for a great cause.
In addition to attending the social event, Steve explored Savannah’s beautiful parks and spent quality time reviewing construction of SCAD’s new Montgomery Residence Hall. The design was inspired by the Bauhaus School, an avant-garde institution led by famed architect Walter Gropius. The structure is comprised completely of precast concrete load-bearing walls, floors and roof – an innovative system that enabled Clayco to erect a complete shell in less than three months. Project completion is scheduled for this summer. Our team includes Steve Emer Jordan Gatewood, and Clint Smith.
