The Student Housing Renewal project at the University of Wyoming includes master planning and design for two new, five-story residence halls and a new dining facility, transforming the student housing experience to foster community and meet the needs of today’s college students. North Hall will span 183,029 square feet with a 71,258-square-foot dining hall that seats 850 students, and it will house 389 students in double and single Rooms. South Hall covers 123,853 square feet and will house 533 students. Both buildings will feature amenities like recreational spaces, multi-purpose rooms, community kitchens, and study spaces to foster community among first-year students. The project aims to provide a modern, community-focused living environment to enhance student recruitment and experience, with completion expected by Fall 2025.
Shape
The University of Wyoming's Steering Committee and Board of Regents were integral to the design process, emphasizing the desire for the buildings to standout as landmarks on campus. This collaboration also involved extensive engagement with students, professors, and other stakeholders to ensure the design met their diverse needs. During a series of interactive programming workshops, information was synthesized into a tabular program, a graphic program, and a series of room data sheets to create a road map for moving efficiently into the design process. The resulting design reflects these collaborative efforts and the university’s goal to create a welcoming, impressive environment for students and visitors.
Inspire
The new residence halls and dining facility will blend historical campus architecture with modern design trends, inspired by the scenic Laramie Valley and existing campus materials. The buildings embody the University's unique Collegiate Gothic style while offering state-of-the-art amenities, designed to be vibrant community hubs that will enhance student life for the entire campus. The dining hall, equipped to host special events, aims to leave a lasting impression on visitors. Set to open in Fall 2025, these halls will play a crucial role in the university’s future development, providing a dynamic and inspiring environment for all.
These major housing projects will dramatically improve the housing options available to our students. These new facilities, located closer to the central campus and featuring modern design and amenities, will be a significant upgrade for student life at our university.
